5 Ways To Stop Overthinking.

Loneliness

Overthinking causes us to spend too much time on the same thoughts, getting stuck in a loop of inaction and turning positive reflection into debilitating worry. Not only does it not move us forward, but it also moves us backward and downward. I find this comes up a lot in dating. Worrying and overthinking about whether someone will call you or text you back, whether they like you, and didn’t you say too much or too little are all common topics that come up when working with clients.

Do you wonder why people overthink?

In practically every case, you’re obsessing over a situation or interaction that went down with another person. I mean, how often do you stop to fixate on something that you did when no one else was around? Probably never. Overthinking can happen with co-workers, bosses, family members, friends, etc. overthinking can become so obsessive that it can ruin you and your life. It can also ruin your relationship with others and your way of understanding.

Here are 5 ways how you can stop overthinking.

  • Manage your story When we are overthinking, we are telling ourselves a story. We create different scenarios in our minds that we can’t stop thinking about. These stories can be fun sometimes but can be dangerous other times. Overthinking reduces your mind’s capability to live in present and you start living in a fictional world where there is only imagination and not reality. These thoughts can make you stressed and depressed. To overcome these negative beliefs, you need to identify them. Then you can catch yourself when you start telling yourself these negative stories and replace them with positive ones.
  • Let go of the past The main reason for overthinking is people often focus on their past than the present. People need to understand that what’s gone is gone and can’t be changed. If you want a life without stress and overthinking try to live in the present, not in the future; not in past, in present. Then only you can have a peaceful mind and a healthy brain.
  • Talk to someone The reason why most people overthink is that they are unable to share their thoughts with anyone. If you want to heal and stop overthinking try to talk out your thought to your family or friends. Talk with them to get your head clean. Or if you are not comfortable talking with other people about your problem then write about it in your journal. Because getting your thoughts are very important because if you’ll keep everything inside you your brain will burst. So, try to keep your brain as clean as possible.
  • Do meditation Meditation is the best way to stop overthinking. When you meditate you are allowing your brain to relax. Any type of meditation will help you quit overthinking, but mindfulness meditation is a particularly good place to start. To reduce negative thoughts, try just 10 minutes of meditation daily, sitting and observing your breath.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy CBT is effective for overcoming overthinking and recognizing cognitive errors. It helps one learn to first identify the errors, then reframe the thinking in more logical and balanced ways. With these few steps, you can reduce overthinking. You need to understand that overthinking is like an addictive drug it keeps on growing and if not stopped at a right time can destroy you completely. Now that you know how to stop overthinking you can become a better version of yourself and live a peaceful and happy life. Cheer up! And go with the flow. You can do it. Don’t stop until you’ve reached your goal.
